Joe Byrne's Biography

For over 16 years, Joe has been more than just a tattoo artist, he has been a mentor, an innovator, and a driving force in the world of tattoo education. His journey began with a deep passion for art and the drive to master the craft of tattooing. This led him to work in 11 tattoo shops across the United States, gaining hands-on experience and a diverse understanding of the industry in cities like Dallas, Texas; Utah; and Hawaii.
In 2019, Joe and his wife, Kimsha, opened their first studio in Hawaii, a milestone that symbolized their dedication to creating a space where creativity and professionalism thrive. However, Joe’s commitment to the craft extends far beyond the studio walls. Since 2009, he has actively studied and taught tattoo techniques, freely sharing his knowledge with anyone eager to learn. His passion for teaching isn’t just about technique, it’s about building confidence, fostering community, and empowering the next generation of artists.
Joe’s approach to education is rooted in accessibility. He believes that anyone with the desire to learn tattooing should have the opportunity to do so. Through ongoing self-education, research, and collaboration with other professionals, Joe stays at the forefront of the industry, continually refining his methods and discovering innovative techniques. This commitment to lifelong learning is a cornerstone of his teaching philosophy and is exemplified by his founding of the Raven Studio Tattoo Academy, a hybrid learning model designed to make high-quality tattoo education available to students worldwide.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Joe’s life is grounded in family and personal growth. As a proud father, grandfather, and husband, he balances his passion for tattooing with a love for the outdoors, meditation, hiking, skiing, and bushcraft. These activities not only recharge his spirit but also inspire his creative work and teaching practices.
